In 1946, when I was ten years old, my parents rented a house on a farm
in Huntington, Long Island, NY.  The owner of the farm had a large vegetable garden, which he turned over to me to have.  My father, Frank, taught me how to care for the plants.  I convinced my parents to purchase two female milking goats and a number of chickens, and I soon learned how to milk the goats and tend to the chickens.  Thus began my love of farming.  I began direct marketing door to door, and soon after I set up a farm stand on Powerhouse Road in Roslyn Heights, Long Island.  Success followed.  Sheep soon followed, and have been an intricate part of the life of my family ever since.

In 1948, my wife Diane and I moved to Virginia, having sold the farm that I had previously owned, and we, with our children, have continued to farm and ranch ever since.

Today, I own and operate three companies:

Cestari, Ltd.

Cestari, Ltd. operates a complete commercial wool mill, manufacturing hand-knitting and crochet yarn, which we sell throughout the US, Australia, Brazil, and Canada with prospects for further oversees sales.  A retail store with all of our finished yarn and sheepskin products is open to the public Monday-Saturday, 9am-5pm.

Cestari Sheep and Land Co, LLC owns the two farms, one in Augusta Springs, and the other in Churchville.  Quality Columbia and merino breeds of sheep are raised for breeding and award winning wool, which Cestari, Ltd purchases and processes.  Fresh lamb, along with the produce raised, is sold in our newly built old-fashioned styled Country Store and Farm Market in Churchville, VA.  Quality preserves, cider, fruit, flowers, eggs, creamery milk in glass bottles, and country butter are available in our store.
